HERE ARE SOME FAMOUS SAINT LAZAR MANCHESTERS FROM THE PAST - BEST IN SHOW WINNERS, STUD DOGS AND BROOD BITCHES OF THE YEAR, BOTH TOYS AND STANDARDS
Topaz is the only Manchester Terrier Puppy, Toy or Standard, to win a Best in Show. This was an awesome feat as she defeated 22 Toy Group Champions, 6 of which were ranked in the top 10 of their respective breeds, and 2 of those were #1, including the nation's top Pekinese. If this magnificent win does not speak to the efficacy of "Planned Breeding", then indeed the Earth is flat. We made the very long drive from Stone Mountain to San Antonio in 1994 to attend the AMTC events there. Ch. Saint Lazar's Klay SDY SMSDY HOF ROM, the greatest Toy Manchester Stud Dog, won a 5-point Major there against strong competition from all over the USA, which win I think completed his AKC Championship requirements. Klay was "prepotent", which means no matter who he was bred to, he dominated genetically. Ace Ventura is the only other Manchester that had his breeding success. He was a Stud Dog of the Year, produced multiple Stud Dogs of the Year, Hall of Fame member, and an ROM holder for producing multiple Champions. One of his sons was shown prolifically, rightfully achieving great show success, but that son did not produce anything much of show quality. Even though he had his Sire's conformation, his dame was a genetic "outcross", not the product of carefully "planned breeding", which is the "secret" to Saint Lazar's outstanding breeding consistency litter after litter, after litter. The photos on our web pages stand as testimony to this unparalleled consistency. It took Wanda and I about 15 years of careful attention to Lloyd Brackett's principles of "Planned Breeding" to produce Klay and his "get". See this progeny all the way down to Aden.
Much to my chagrin, I can't find a good photo of Ch. Saint Lazar's Ace Ventura SDY SMSDY HOF ROM. The above is Ace, and then Ace and Ch. Saint Lazar 's Andera (Ada) enjoying the afternoon sun. Maybe I can find a show photo buried somewhere. Ace was a "Klay" dog, and really was as good as his Sire at producing Champions. He had tremendous effect on our breeding program, and he had a great temperament, one of those I really miss. I remember in Tampa Florida at the AMTC events, a well know AKC Judge asked us if we could bring Ace to his Training Seminar for prospective AKC Judges. As he began to describe the correct coat that the Breed Standard calls for, he asked if he could have the prospective judges feel his coat. Ace allowed himself to be passed down a long table, and the Trainer remarked Ace has the totally correct coat, feel it!
Champion Saint Lazar's Lance, Stud Dog of the Year, Hall Of Fame, Certificate of Merit - Talk about fun to show, he decimated the competition, rarely losing. He sired numerous Champions, and he was one of our most beloved boys. An "Ace" boy!
This is the boy portrayed on the cover of our Blurb Published book in May 2008, Ch. Saint Lazar's Indiana Jones MCOM. He was 6 months of age in this photo, another magnificent Saint Lazar male, a "Lance" boy. Indy was one of 2 in his litter, the other did not survive, and his mom, "Rocket" did not produce milk. So, Wanda took him to work every day to the Law Office, and bottle fed him every couple of hours. He became the hit of this large firm. I took over at my home office when he became able to lap up goat's milk. He was worth every bit of this effort. At his time we still had Klay, Ace, Lance, and some others in residence, plus Indy produced Zorro. We sold Indy to a breeder in Australia, and he had great success there "improving" Australian Manchesters. We much enjoyed his time with us, and showing him.
Champion Saint Lazar's Zorro COM was born in 2006 and his sire was Indy. His show debut was in Nebraska at the Manchester Specialty dog show, where he easily defeated all the male Toy Manchester's entered there to win 5 points toward his AKC Championship, the maximum points available to any breed, at any dog show. He did this at 6 months of age, from the Puppy Class. He produced wonderful puppies and lived 15 years with Wanda and I, and then Carol and me. I have Lydia, which is from his last sired litter. His pedigree is something to behold, numerous Stud Dog of the Year, and Brood Bitch of the Year. I held him in my arms as he peacefully left this realm for whatever GOD has for "Man's Best Friend". He was such a good boy!

Ch. Saint Lazar's Aden - Now 11 years old, a Zorro son and a direct descendant of Klay. He is in great shape and still producing the best Toy Manchester's on Planet Earth. No one else can produce a pedigree even remotely approaching his. A beautiful, very smart, and affectionate boy, he's all "Terrier" and a blessing from GOD.
Ch. Saint Lazar's Amethyst, one of my all-time favorites out of the literally hundreds of quality females that Saint Lazar has produced over the last fifty years or so. Tears literally come to my eyes as I try to describe this very excellent gal. The photo will just have to suffice. If one were to have the Official Breed Standard for the Manchester Terrier that was in effect when Ame was born, then you would easily see that she was perfection personified. Her intelligence and temperament left nothing to be desired. GOD so blessed Saint Lazar with Ame and others portrayed on this page. She was a "Jade" dog, none better!
The above photo of littermates, Champions Saint Lazar's Amethyst & Alexandrite (Zander) was taken in January 2007. Ame was as close to the Breed Standard of Perfection as to be almost perfect. Zander was no slouch, but he was a tad shorter in leg length. HIs strengths were his perfect markings, wonderfully correct "dark" eye, and the correct dark mahogany tan. Ame's markings are perfect. Their head shapes are as good as it gets, as well as ear size, shape, and setting. This is generally of no interest except to "show" people. They are perfect companion dogs in any event. Saint Lazar is only interested in breeding the best, consistently litter to litter, and that is accomplished by "Planned Breeding". We are still the only Manchester Breeder on planet Earth that utilizes this method. Witness the consistency of the Manchester's pictured throughout this web site.
Champion Saint Lazar's Jade MCOM (multiple Certificate of Merit winner for the production of Champions), Over many years, regular visitors to this site would see me reference a dog by writing "she or he is a Jade dog Margie". Jade produced so many fine, fine, Toy Manchester's, that it's not possible for me to enumerate them all here. Another tremendous Blessing From The LORD GOD Almighty! Jade spent her final years in the best home a Manchester could ask for, with Margie and Ron Ferguson of Atlanta, great friends of long standing. Jade's mother, "Peanut" also spent her final years with the Ferguson's, as did "Zander", Jade's puppy. GOD Bless You, Margie & Ron!
Jade on the right above, and Saint Lazar's Pride N Joy, "Peanut", her mom, on the left. As mentioned above, Peanut and her pup, Jade, spent their final years loved by Margie and Ron Ferguson. This is the only photo I could find of Peanut and was sent to me years ago by Margie. We loved Peanut dearly, but she did not like "dog shows". We loved her anyway and she produced great pups, of which Jade was so important genetically to our breeding program. Although there is no scriptural basis for this, I do hope GOD lets us see these wonderful creatures when we go to be with him.
Wanda Walker with Ch. Saint Lazar's Monterey Jack Hall of Fame, and Judge William Kendrick. In November, 1984, The American Kennel Club celebrated it's 100 Anniversary by holding Specialty Breed Shows for every recognized breed, and a "Benched" All Breed Show the following day. The AKC does not hold dog shows, at that time anyway, so this was a singular event. Judge Kendrick who had owned Manchester's, was a Judge at the 50th Anniversary. Saint Lazar had two 6 mo. old puppy littermates entered both days, "Jack" and sister, "Romano". Both days these two went Winners Dog and Winners Bitch from the Puppy Class. In Dogdom, this was a fantastic feat, never done before, and will not be again. Frank Sabella told Wanda that he seriously considered Jack for Best of Variety (Breed), but due to Jack being sick all night, he wound up awarding Jack Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Variety. Not too shabby for an owner handled puppy up against a bunch of professional handlers. Jack shown above with 47-year-old Wanda Walker.
Judge Frank Sabella with Wanda. The sign is incorrect, Ch. Saint Lazar's Romano, was Winner's Bitch, shown above, her brother, Ch. Saint Lazar's Monterey Jack HOF was Best of Winner's and Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Variety. In 1986 in Saint Louis at the very first of the now common "Invitational" shows, this one being for the top ten dogs in each breed to be "invited. Saint Lazar had 25% of the available invitations for Toys and Standards. Judge Sabella gave Jack the win for Toys, and Ch. Saint Lazar's Patricia beat all the Standards under a different Judge.
The magnificent pair of Hall of Fame and Register of Merit Standard Manchesters above are Ch. Saint Lazar's Patton HOF ROM (L), and his Littermate, Best in Show. Ch. Saint Lazar's Paula HOF ROM. This photo is from October 1985. Wanda took Paula to the AMTC National Specialty in Reno, NV in 1986 where Paula beat every Manchester entered, Toy and Standard. Wanda then flew from Reno to Saint Louis where she met me (Charlie) and proceeded to win the very first Purina Invitational by beating the invited Standards. Monterey Jack defeated all the Toys entered. So here we are 25 years later still turning out the best Manchester's on Planet Earth. The only Breeder using "Planned Breeding" concepts. GOD has blessed Saint Lazar thru "thick and thin", Praise HIs Name!
