A HUGE THANK YOU TO OUR FAITHFUL VISITORS!
We are provided extensive statistical information by our Internet Domain host provider about visitors to our web site, and for over a decade, Wanda and I have been flabbergasted by how many folks visit our web site, and where they come from. Today an email succinctly reminded us again how many visit our modest undertaking several times a week.  We want to say how very, very much we appreciate you all. Especially those who call & write to tell us they are praying for us. The LORD is more than sufficient to meet our encroaching old age, and the "wearing out" that goes with it. HE is certainly sufficient to deal with the "rogue" members of the AMTC Board of Directors. We give HIM all the PRAISE for letting all of us have these wonderful Black & Tan creatures, Toy & Standard. We will do our best for a season, to keep the web site interesting, but from time to time I need a break, so you may not see anything new for a few days. Please accept our Christian love and deep heartfelt thanks for writing, praying and encouraging us in so many ways. We, and you, know who you are.

A NEW SAINT LAZAR CHAMPION

Montage by Gene Caron - Friend Extraordinaire!

Under the superb mentorship of our good friend, Patricia Hall of Warminster, PA, Ch. Saint Lazar's Derby Pie became the latest Saint Lazar AKC Champion May 7, 2010. Derby did this at the same show, Delaware Valley Toy Dog Assoc., exactly one year after Topaz went Best in Show there. Derby also went Best of Opposite Sex to Topaz, and he did this over "Specials". Topaz was of course Best of Variety again. Derby & Topaz were Judged by one of the most well known Terrier Judges in the world, Judge Peter Green. Thanks a million Pat Hall! Oh, Derby was 4th Place in the Toy Puppy Group Judging and there was a very large entry!

A MIGHTY FINE TOY MANCHESTER BOY WITH A GREAT HANDLER!

Boy what a nice win! Frank Sabella has been Judging Manchesters for over 30 years, and he knows the breed because he got his license when the AKC required a modicum of Breed knowledge. I am so proud of these two, Sonja Simmons Long presented Saint Lazar's Errol Flynn beautifully, and she has him much better trained than I ever could. Sonja is a friend, not a professional handler. Thank you Sonja! I did show Flynn to a superb win some months ago at the Atlanta Toy Specialty show when he was barely old enough to show. He whipped every Toy Manchester there by going Best of Variety, and he did this over "professionally handled" Specials (Champions).  His mother is a "Jade" dog Margie!

Frank Sabella judged at the AKC Centennial Anniversary show in Philadelphia in 1984. Saint Lazar won Winners Dog & Winners Bitch with littermates the day before the actual Centennial Show when all of the parent Breed Clubs held Specialty shows. This win was under William Kendrick who also had judged at the 50th Anniversary show. The next day at the Centennial, Judge Sabella gave us WD & WB again with the same littermates who were barely 6 months old. He then went on to give Wanda Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Variety with the male, Ch. Saint Lazar's Monterrey Jack, which is phenomenal for a 6 month old puppy. In 1986 at the very first of the now common Invitational shows, Judge Sabella gave the same dog, Ch. Saint Lazar's Monterrey Jack BOV. He knows correct TMTs. The dog shown with Wanda is Ch. Saint Lazar's Romona. Neither Romona nor Jack were yet Champions at Philadelphia, but they became so quickly.

She's been around here for a while, seven years to be exact. A bit mature looking now, but still a beautiful example of the highest quality in a Toy Manchester female. She is Ch. Saint Lazar's Serena BBY, and she is an outstanding producer of Champion quality pups. Hence the reason she won the coveted American Manchester Terrier Club Brood Bitch of the Year Award. Actually she tied with our Ch. Saint Lazar's Clarice BBY who now lives with the Murfields in very comfortable retirement in Atlanta. I don't believe there is any other Breeder who has ever won two Brood Bitch of the Year Awards at the same time. Interestingly, Serena is the only dog who ever beat Clarice in the show ring, and that was at the AMTC National Specialty in Des Moines in 2003, where they dominated the Class Bitches all 3 days. Serena is the Dam of our Ch. Saint Lazar's Diamonds R Forever, and her full sister from a later litter, Saint Lazar's Sahara (making her show debut in May 2010). The current #2 TMT in the nation is a Serena pup. Hopefully we will see a beautiful last litter from this wonderful Gal around June 22nd. That's the Dad below.

One of our competitors was heard to exclaim upon seeing this magnificent Chase boy, "where did he come from, will they never stop!"

SAINT LAZAR BOYS AND GIRLS SWEEP CLASS DOGS - PERRY, GA 4/15-17/10

A NOTE ABOUT BREEDING CONSISTENCY
We would draw your attention to the fact that the 3 shows in Perry, GA were Judged by three of the most knowledgeable Manchester Terrier Judges in the world. Lydia Hutchinson, Michelle Billings, and Frank Sabella have all Judged American Manchester Terrier Club National Specialties. Frank Judged TMT'S at the AKC Centennial Show in Philadelphia in 1984, where Saint Lazar dominated the Class Dogs.  Is it not interesting that Flynn and Morganite are full brothers. Macy, Flynn, and Morgan are all sired by Zander (Alexandrite) the finest existing TMT Stud Dog on the Planet Earth. Vivi was sired by Morgan. There is not another Breeder in the USA, or elsewhere for that matter, that can field an entry like that in Perry these past three days, and then have three independent minded Judges "consistently" pick Saint Lazar dogs. Saint Lazar thanks our LORD again for blessing our "Planned Breeding" program.

Photo & montage provided by Gene Caron

Wanda & Charlie Walker being praised by Judge Frank Sabella in Perry, GA - One of the Exhibitors in Perry Saturday graciously pointed us out to Judge Frank Sabella as the Breeders of his Winners Dog & Bitch, plus some of his Class Winners.. He then engaged us in conversation and effusively, to put it mildly, said he had not seen a TMT Class entry of this quality in a long time. One can easily see Wanda is pleased with his comments.  Thank you LORD!

Thanks Gene Caron for the photos & montage!

Sonja & Flynn put the wow on Judge Frank Sabella 4-17-10 - THANK YOU LORD!

Montage by Gene Caron

Morgan is a super nice boy, and today, 4/16/10, was his day under one of the best Manchester Terrier Judges in the World, Michelle Billings. He is a full brother to Eroll Flynn, who was Winners Dog yesterday, but different litters. We are extremely blessed with these two boys, THANK YOU LORD

SAINT LAZAR'S ERROL FLYNN
WINNERS DOG, PERRY, GA 4-15-10

SAINT LAZAR'S ERROL FLYNN is shown above with our good friend, Sonja Simmons from Birmingham, AL, our home town, relaxing after defeating a nice entry of Toy Manchester Terriers. The Chinese Crested Puff is Sonja's pup which was going to be shown later in the day. Flynn has been living with Sonya for several months, where she is refining his show training. Sonja presented Flynn flawlessly in the ring, and he showed and moved beautifully. Thanks a million Sonya! (Oh yes.... We teased Sonja plenty about the lead around Flynn's neck)

SAINT LAZAR'S AMAZIN RAISIN - "MACY"

BEST OF WINNERS - PERRY, GA 4-15-10

Our long time friend, Madonna Lee, showed her beautiful girl, Saint Lazar's Amazin Raisin, "Macy", to a fine win over an excellent entry of "Class" Toys at Perry, GA today, 4/15/10. Congratulations Madonna and Macy.

Now its the poor Baby Ducks turn. From the left, Brandy, Zorro, Berry (Patootie), Sahara, and Iris. I love this time of the year. It is pretty warm though for early April at 5 PM, about 81, and everyone has had their supper. They love to romp and play after they eat, and I never get tired of watching them. Been doing it over 40 years. This is the perfect time for photography, and some of my best stuff comes from these after Supper play periods.

DEBBIE & GENE VISIT - FINALLY!

For several weeks Wanda and I have been anxious to have our good friends, Debbie & Gene Caron, to come visit with their 5 TMT's. Finally today, Saturday, 4/3, the weather co-operated and everything came together for a great afternoon of fellowship. Regular visitors know that Gene has been the Author of many of the fine montages found throughout our web site for over a year now. I let Sahara out to play with the Caron clan, and she promptly took up with Debbie. The telephoto lens exaggerates her size a bit, she is really still a small gal, and Debbie keep saying, "how pretty you are". Naturally we agree. Thank you LORD for good friends like the Caron's. See Charlie & Sahara below.

Gene picked up the absolute favorite prey of TMT's, THE PARROT, and proceeded to tantalize his brood. Sahara is standing at Gene's right leg just amazed that Trooper can jump so high. I actually got a couple more photos of him going even higher than you see above, but I wanted to get all the Caron TMT's in the photo.

CHARLIE & SAHARA - SHE IS SMALL, BUT ALL "TERRIER"

Sahara saw something on the floor that needed to be "got", hence the predatory look. She is so easy to love!

In all the hoopla of Cash dominating the Standard Manchesters in 2 Specialty shows and one All Breed Show BOV, and Topaz winning a BOV Specialty Show, we have failed to mention that our good friend, and leading Manchester Breeder and Exhibitor, Patricia Hall of Warminster, PA showed our Saint Lazar's Kentucky Derby Pie in his show debut in Edison, NJ. In the four shows, Derby & Pat picked up two "major" wins and came away with 7 points toward the required 15 for an AKC Championship award. Pat told us Derby was a big hit with other exhibitors and spectators, and garnered many compliments about his fine temperament and friendliness. THANKS A MILLION PAT!

FLASH!!!
WE JUST HEARD FROM PAT HALL THAT CASH TRIUMPHED AGAIN TODAY, 3/28/10, HIS 3RD WIN IN 3 DAYS

TOPAZ TRIUMPHS AT PROGRESSIVE DOG SHOW
EDISON, NJ - March 25, 2010

Montage by the Master, Gene Caron

BISS CH. Saint Lazar's Topaz whipped the Toy Manchester Competition, and went on to take a Toy Group 3 at one of the most prestigious Dog Shows in North America. It is interesting to note that the only two dogs to defeat Topaz in the Toy Group competition were the #1 Toy Poodle, and the #1 Italian Greyhound, both breeds immensely more populous than than TMT's. We could hardly ask for better, and we can only say THANK YOU AGAIN LORD! Topaz's success is 95% due to the mentorship, and now co-ownership of Patricia Hall, one of the Nations foremost TMT Breeders and Exhibitors. Thank you PAT! Topaz was presented by the very best Professional Handler that we know, Marcelo Chagas.

SEE WHAT GENE CARON DID WITH THIS IMAGE - BELOW

A gaggle of Saint Lazar Toy Manchesters playing tug of war with stuffed toy. I believe that is Berry (Patootie) on the left, then Zorro, and Morganite on the right. I don't know who the two in back are, they were running too fast.(3-27-10)

Saint Lazar's Sahara - Age 5 months - A classic Saint Lazar beauty, wonderful temperament, and superbly marked. A pup from our Ch. Saint Lazar's Serena BBY, an AMTC Brood Bitch of the Year, and our outstanding Ch. Saint Lazar's Alexandrite.

Boy, the pups are enjoying their play time today, 3/27/10. That's Sahara on the left, Berry in the middle, and Brandy on the right.

Gracious, it's been a primo day for photographing the World's finest Toy Manchesters at Saint Lazar. This is Iris hot after Ch. Saint Lazar's Chase to get the toy. I clocked them at 89.41 MPH. (3-27-10)

RAISED WITH TOY MANCHESTERS BEGINNING OVER 40 YRS AGO

The three above are our children, left to right, Charlotte (45), Martin (44) and Dawn (51).  You have seen  photos of Charlotte and Dawn at the bottom of this page from when they were just tots. Dawn had Alex for over 8 years, and he is the Sire of Amethyst and Alexandrite. Charlotte and Marty don't have pets, I guess they got enough of TMT's growing up and being hauled all over the South to dog shows. Actually their family situation is not currently conducive to having a Chester under foot. Dawn is Samantha's Mom, and Sam is pictured further down. Martin is Lauren's Dad, and you can see her in a nifty Gene Caron montage further down also. Charlotte is Joel's Mom, and I believe there is a photo of him, much younger, on the pups for sale page. Wanda and I could not ask for better than these kids, they are fine Christ Centered parents, are close to each other affectionately, and in these terrible times in our Nation, and in the AMTC, they give us comfort and hope for the future. Martin is 6'3", well over 200#, was a pretty good left Guard at one time, you don't mess with him!

SAHARA AIRBORNE

Sahara was so happy that the sun is out and that she can run and play that she zoomed all over the yard going slightly under the speed of sound. If you think a 4 month old TMT can't jump, think again. She is leaping from the sidewalk to the kennel over the flower bed. Had I known I would get an opportunity to catch her like this, I would have used a much faster shutter speed than the 1/200 sec used here. But es la vida! Zorro boy was right behind her, but his little legs are not up to to aerobatics yet. Sunday, 2/28/10

IRIS & SAHARA

Iris and Sahara share the same run in the kennel, hence this nice montage from Gene Caron.

"Without God's blessing I look for no success, and for every success my prayer is, that all the glory may be given unto Him to whom it is properly due. If people would but give all the glory to God and regard his creatures as but unworthy instruments my heart would rejoice. Alas too frequently the praise is bestowed upon the creature. "  Gen. Thomas J. (Stonewall) Jackson, 31 July 1862.

BEAUTIFUL GIRL AVAILABLE TO A GOOD HOME

Pictured above is Ch. Saint Lazar's Diamond Lil COM Ret., born 5/6/04. This magnificent gal has no less than three (3) AMTC Stud Dogs of the Year in her pedigree, and she has produced magnificent pups, including BISS Ch. Saint Lazar's Topaz. Topaz is the only Manchester, Toy or Standard, to win a Best in Show as a puppy (age 9 months), and that from the Puppy Class! We have retired Lil and we are looking for a home where she will be loved and appreciated.  She is very affectionate, intelligent, and comes from a bloodline that no other kennel/breeder can even approach in quality. We will charge a very modest fee for her if you qualify as a "good home". Give us a call if you are interested, (706) 468-0220.

THEY GROW UP SO FAST!

A real montage masterpiece from a SUPER friend - Gene Caron

Our very good friend, Gene Caron, put together this fine montage of Grandchild #5, Lauren Walker, age 15 as of September 5th. Lauren is shown on her 15th birthday last Saturday in the lower right. The photo of her in the lower left was taken here in October 1999, and that is probably Ch. Saint Lazar's Jade MCOM. she is holding. Jade retired and lived with our very good friends, Margie & Ron Ferguson until her death 2/12/10. When I particularly like a puppy, I will refer to it as a "Jade" puppy, the absolute highest compliment Charlie Walker can apply to a Toy Manchester. The middle photo is with Raisin and was taken April 4, 2008. Gracious what a difference 17 months makes in a young lady's maturity. Wanda and I are so proud of Lauren, her brother & sister, and her parents, Vicki & Marty, particularly their family commitment to our LORD.

WE NEVER FORGET

Montage by Gene Caron

You can see the Great Ones page here. Of course Lance is still around, hale & hardy, enjoying retirement.

Wanda & Charles Walker of Saint Lazar have been breeding and showing Toy Manchester Terriers for over 40 years. We produce the finest for Pet or Show, give us a call. We are non-commercial hobby breeders specializing in the very best for companion homes, but we back up to no one in the show ring.

WANDA WALKER - Recipient of American Kennel Club Medallion for OUTSTANDING SPORTSMANSHIP 2008 AWARDED 6/26/09. Wanda was seated with our friend of nearly 30 years, fellow AMTC member, and licensed AKC Judge (He got his license the hard way, and he knows his breeds) Rodney Herner. The plaques are for the Brood Bitch Of The Year Award 2008, a tie with our Serena and Clarice. The huge medallion around Wanda's neck is the Hall of Fame Award for Ch. Saint Lazar Strikes Back HOF SDY MCOM, one of our many, many Hall of Fame members. Thank you LORD for blessing Wanda and Saint Lazar!

NOTE: ALTHOUGH WE MAKE A "BIG DEAL" ABOUT SHOW QUALITY, THE FACT IS 99% OF OUR PUPS GO TO PET HOMES, AND TO FAMILIES WHO APPRECIATE QUALITY. OUR PUPS COST NO MORE THAN THOSE FROM PLACES THAT GIVE NO THOUGHT OR STUDY TO THE BREEDING PROCESS. READ THIS PLEASE.

Isn't the resemblance in Garnet, above, and her Cousin Morganite uncanny. Nope, not a bit, this is a result of 40 years of Toy Manchester breeding experience and carefully planned "line breeding" using the well proven principles of the late genius, Mr. Lloyd C. Brackett. We don't "roll the dice" at Saint Lazar, but we carefully consider each mating. As I have written before, does it go 100% flawless, no, but the percentage of success and consistency is unrivaled. Thank you LORD! (It's hard to beat Canon "L" lens for consistent quality also. All four of the above photos were captured using our 70-200mm f:/4L Canon lens)

TWO PRETTY GIRLS!

The problem with Grandchildren is that they grow up. Samantha (19) used to come see or stay with us frequently, but now she is out of school and working, we don't see her too often. So I don't get take photos of her and pups much anymore. She is here today with her mother, our Daughter, Dawn, to bring Wanda a birthday present. Some things never change though, she went straight to the puppies in the house and started petting each of them. I happened to have my background muslin and studio strobes set up, so I persuaded her to pose for me. Are not these two pretty young gals? (12-14-08) (Camera Canon EOS 40D, 3  Alien Bee 800 strobes, Exposure set to manual 1/125 second at f/11, ISO 100, color balance 5900 Kelvin manually set, with a Amvona provided 10' x 12' "Tempanillo" muslin backdrop.)

TOY MANCHESTER PICTORIAL BOOK AVAILABLE

We have just published an 8 X 10 hard cover book with dust jacket entitled SAINT LAZAR TOY MANCHESTER TERRIERS. It is available for order from www.blurb.com. It is a reprise of some of the photos that have appeared on our web page, but with some not seen before, all with captions, plus some commentary text. The front cover is shown above. This is a "vanity" book and a test of self-publishing, but we will be following in the future with a publication entitled  TOY MANCHESTER TERRIERS, BREEDING FOR CONSISTENCY, which will guide those who are interested in the breeding principles that have keep Saint Lazar the #1 Toy Manchester Terrier Breeder on Planet Earth for nearly 30 years.

FALL 2010 PUPPIES PLANNED

We normally have a modest waiting list for pups, please call for more information. The female puppy, pictured right at age 12 weeks, is an example of the super quality Saint Lazar puppies. Click on the photo for a larger picture. Sales details on the "Pups for Sale" page.

CONSIDERING A NEW PUP? READ THIS.

There have been fifty-three new Championships (note - we made our point with our detractors, so we stopped counting over a year ago) of record earned by Saint Lazar, and Saint Lazar owners since 12/04, and well over 250 the past 40 years, and there are about to be several more. Whether your interest is in showing, or you just want a quality companion dog, then you would be well served to talk to a show kennel, regardless of which breed you like. Show people who are members of the parent breed club, such as the American Manchester Terrier Club, are the folks to consult. Ideally, they will have a medium to large size kennel, as that is where you find the healthy gene pools, and the superior socialization.  Investigate carefully, be sure you are considering someone who has a "planned" line breeding program, and can show you their documented breeding "plan" for several future generations. Ask to see the kennel facility, and both parents of the pup you might be considering. Also beware of "newspaper" ads and the proverbial backyard breeders. Saint Lazar did not become the #1 Breeder by "random" matings, we always have a plan. Visitors are frequent at Saint Lazar, and you are welcome too.

Saturday, 2-16-08, was a fine 70 degree time, and I had some of our guys and gals out of the kennel runs to play and get petted. There are at least 3 males in the 10 enjoying the sun above. Luke, J.R. Ewing, and Striker. We even have a female in heat, yet these fellows are so well disciplined and well tempered, there is no problem. But, I still keep an eye on them. I later rotated two more batches out for fun and petting. You will not find better than these on the Planet.

Those magnificent creatures pictured in our yard above did not happen by accident. They are the result of forty years of breeding experience and a careful adherence to the principles of "planned breeding". If you are looking for the very best Toy Manchester Terrier available, not the most expensive, but the best, you would be well served to take a moment to read the quotation below.

A QUOTATION FROM LLOYD C. BRACKETT - THE FATHER OF "PLANNED BREEDING".

"In the dog game those who criticize the system of line breeding far outnumber its proponents. This is true for several reasons. There is a continual influx of beginners in breeding dogs, people who have never before mated one animal to another, or made any study of the subject. In their ignorance they believe that mating two dogs with "pedigrees", especially if both are winners, or better yet, "Champions", is all there is to it. Then, there are a multitude of breeders who refuse to take the time to make any study of genetics, who want only to breed dogs to sell and make money, and these have no interest in breed improvement through years of planned effort. Again, we have the many hit-or-miss breeders who hope for the good luck which sometimes strikes novices who by sheer accident come up with a real "topper" or two. In listing the opponents of closed-up breeding, one should not fail to mention owners of stud dogs, hungry for stud fees.

Fortunately there are in almost all breeds of dogs a very few fanciers intent upon consistently producing dogs superior to the average of the breed. Many of these know that the quickest and most certain way to do this is by line breeding".

SAINT LAZAR'S RECORD OF LINE BREEDING, CONSISTENTLY PRODUCING DOGS "SUPERIOR TO THE AVERAGE OF THE BREED" WHETHER FOR PET OR SHOW, IS WITHOUT PEER, THANKS TO MR. BRACKETT.

SAINT LAZAR IS A NON-COMMERCIAL "HOBBY" BREEDER

"SIGH"

It's Friday night near 10 PM and Honey, Raisin, and Luke have exhausted themselves playing, zooming through the den and kitchen, growling and carrying on something fierce. Finally they have snuggled up against Wanda who is reading a book on the den sofa. One last visit outside to the pine straw, and in our beds we go. I can't believe we have three dogs in the house.

MORE OLDIES
(Click on photos for larger size)

We appreciate the emails we get expressing how much folks enjoy seeing the "old" TMT photos. They bring back great memories for us great-grandparents. The above photo is of our eldest child, Dawn Walker Hunter, now age 50. This is summer of 1967, and that is Idyl Dale Acres Georgia Girl in her lap. "Georgia" came from Karla Christman of McHenry, IL. My dad loaned me $100 to buy her, and we drove to McHenry on July 4th, 1967 and got her at age 6 mo. We were living in Indianapolis at the time.

This is child number 2, Charlotte Walker Rogers, who is now a 44 yr old grandmother with four grandsons. "Georgia" took to our family like a duck to water, and we loved her dearly. Unfortunately, she was a terrible whelper, and not many of her pups survived. Georgia was responsible for us learning the hard way that it is essential to know the gene pool from which you obtain a puppy. These photos were taken with my Minolta Autochord Twin Lens Reflex. I am certain I used Kodak Verichrome Pan processed 1:1 in Microdol in my basement darkroom. These are from prints I made with my Besseler 23C enlarger. Man do I love digital, but it was fun watching those prints come up in the developer.
